Lurssen is considered to be the most exclusive superyacht builder in the world. Lurssen has built the world’s largest yachts (Dilbar and Azzam). And many other yachts in the top 10 of the largest yachts in the world.
History
Lurssen was founded in 1875 by Friedrich Lurssen. The company started building motorboats. In 1911 the Lürssen-Daimler speedboat with its 102 hp engine was the sensation of the racing season.
Later the company diversified in to defense and coast guard vessels. Nowadays the fifth generation is active in the company.
In 2016 Lurssen acquired the Blohm+Voss yard. Lurssen now operates operate seven separate locations in North Germany. Each specializing in a specific size of yacht – from around 60 meters to well over 200 meters in length. The company has more than 2,800 employees and is managed by Peter Lurssen.
Peter Lurssen is the CEO of the Lurssen group. Peter Lurssen has a net worth of several hundred million dollars. He was rumored to own a large yacht himself: the 72 meter Coral Ocean, built in 1994 as Coral Island. The yacht is now owned by Ian Malouf.
Iconic Yachts
Lurssen has built most of the world’s largest yachts including Azzam (the world’s longest yacht) and Dilbar (the world’s biggest yacht in gross tonnage). Other yachts are Al Salamah (Prince for Prince Sultan of Saudi Arabia), Al Said (for Sultan Qaboos of Oman) and Katara for the Emir of Qatar.
Other iconic superyachts are Helmut Horten’s Carinthia VII and Paul Allen’s Octopus. They built Larry Ellison’s Rising Sun and the famous Pelorus.
Their yachts are known for their high-quality craftsmanship, sophisticated design, and advanced technology. They are also known for their secrecy, often times little is known about the yachts they build until they are launched. The company is family-owned and operated, and continues to be led by members of the Lürssen family to this day.
Current Order Portfolio
Lurssen currently has more than 10 projects under construction. As far as we are aware of that is, as many Lurssen projects remain highly confidential. Up to the moment of launch of the yacht.

Project Sassi
Project Sassi was severely damaged in a fire in September 2018. Project Sassi was still in her drydock when a fire started due to construction works. It took the fire crew half a day to get the fire under control.
We received several messages claiming that Project Sassi was the new Topaz, for Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Mansour is the deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates. And he is the minister of presidential affairs.
But later we were told that Sassi was actually a replacement for Coral Island. And we now know that Sheikh Mansour is the owner of the 160-meter Lurssen Project Blue.
Project Opera (147 meters) will be the new Sassi / Coral Island.
Testarossa
We think Project Testarossa is the replacement of the Quatroelle, built for Jamaican/ Canadian billionaire Michael Lee Chin. One of the projects above is the new Coral Island, built for Sheikh Abdul Mohsen al-Sheik. Sheikh Abdul Mohsen is the original owner of the yacht Pelorus. Before he sold the project under construction to Roman Abramovich.
Project Fiji is the new Madsummer, built for Jeffrey Soffer.
Project Gaja is the new Kismet. And Project Redwood / Opus is the now Nord and built for Alexei Mordashov.
Lurssen Logistics supports ship owners with maintenance, documentation of spare parts, management of yachts, and crew training and support.
