Katara is one of the World’s largest yachts. She is built by Lurssen as project Crystal. She was delivered to her owner in 2010. She is designed by Espen Oeino. With an interior design by Alberto Pinto.

Not much is known about her interior. But from one of the photo’s hereunder it can be concluded that her main deck saloon has a height of two decks.
The megayacht has a length of 124 meters (408 ft). Making her the 14th largest yacht in the world. Although measured by volume she would rank much higher.

She has a gross tonnage of 7922t and can reach a max speed of 20 knots. She is powered by MTU engines. Her range is more than 5,000nm.

The superyacht is registered in Doha, Qatar. Katara has an estimated value of USD 400 million.
Katara II
Katara has a 24-meter chase boat named Katara II. She is built by Baia Yachts.
Engine Room Fire
In 2016 a fire started in the engine room while berthed in Porto Montenegro. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. Later in 2016, she was sent to Lurssen in Hamburg for a refit.
Owner
The yacht’s owner is Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He is the former Emir of Qatar. In 2013 Sheikh Hamad abdicated as Emir. His fourth son Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is now the Head of State. He is the youngest sovereign in the world. Sheikh Tamim is the owner of the 123-meter yacht Al Lusail, delivered by Lurssen in 2017.
