The superyacht Rising Sun is designed by the late Jon Bannenberg. She is built by Germany’s Lürssen. She was delivered in 2004.
The yacht has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. The yacht is powered by 4 MTU engines. They bring her a top speed of 28 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots.
The Rising Sun yacht was originally built for Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation. And is currently owned by David Lawrence Geffen.
He purchased her in 2010 after he was co-owner together with Ellison for 4 years. Ellison considered her too big. He purchased the ‘smaller’ 88 meter Musashi. The super yacht is the 6th largest in the world with a length of almost 138 meters (453 ft).
It reportedly cost over US$ 200 million to build. Rising Sun can accommodate 16 guests and she has 45 crew. Her interior is designed by Bannenberg & Rowell Design. The yacht is seen here in 2011 in the bay of Cannes.
In the summer of 2013 famous talk show host, Opray Winfrey had a holiday on board the superyacht. Opray Winfrey does not own a yacht herself (as far as Superyachtfan is informed…).
The yacht’s owner is David Geffen.
