Musashi is a 88 meter Feadship delivered in 2010. She was a replacement for the 138-meter Lurssen Rising Sun. Which Larry considered too big for most yachting destinations.
Musashi was the largest yacht built by Feadship at that time. She is the second hull from Feadship’s XL range. De Voogt Naval Architects is responsible for her exterior design. And Sinot Yacht Design did her interior design.
She is powered by 4 MTU diesel engines. They bring her a top speed of 21 knots. Her range is 6,000nm at 12 knots.
Yacht Interior
The luxury yacht Musashi can accommodate 18 guests with a crew of 23. Her features include a glass elevator and a large cinema lounge.
The designers combined elements from Japanese design and art deco. There is a spa pool on the upper deck.
Miyamoto Musashi
The yacht is named after the greatest samurai ever: Miyamoto Musashi. Miyamoto Musashi was a samurai expert. A Japanese swordsman and ronin who lived from 1584 until 1645.
A ronin was a samurai without a lord or master during the feudal period of Japan. A samurai became masterless from the death or fall of his master. Or after the loss of his master’s favor or privilege.
He authored The Book of Five Rings. A book on strategy, tactics, and philosophy that is still studied today.
In September 2013 the yacht attended America’s Cup. Hosting guests of Ellison. Early 2014 Musashi was spotted in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Sister ship Fountainhead
The superyacht is a sister ship to the motor yacht Fountainhead. This yacht is owned by Edward Lampert. He is CEO of Sears Holding.
Owner
The yacht’s owner is Larry Ellison.
