David Geffen is an American record executive, film producer, theatrical producer and philanthropist.
David Geffen is known for creating Asylum Records in 1970 and Geffen Records in 1980. Geffen Records launched the careers of the Eagles, Aerosmith and Guns N' Roses. In 1990 Geffen Records was sold to MCA Records for USD 550 million.
Geffen is also one of the founders of DreamWorks SKG. David Geffen is an active philanthropist, supporting medical research, AIDS organizations, the arts and theatre. In 2002 David Geffen supported the University of California with USD 200 million, which was renamed in the David Geffen School of Medicine.
Forbes estimates the net worth of David Geffen at USD 6.6 billion. In March 2015 Geffen donated USD 100 million to New York’s cultural institution Lincoln Center, which will be used to renovate the Avery Fisher Hall. The concert hall will be renamed David Geffen Hall.
David Geffen owns a large house in the East Hamptons which he purchased for US$ 50 million and he owns a Malibu Beach House with a value over USD 20 million. Geffen also owns an estate in Beverly Hills, which was built for Warne Bros founder Jack Warner. Geffen also owned the luxury yacht Pelorus.
