Built as Project Vertigo by the renowned Dutch shipyard Feadship, the yacht SOPHIA was originally delivered in early 2017 as FAITH. She was first owned by Lawrence Stroll and later sold to Michael Latifi.
SOPHIA offers luxurious accommodations for 18 guests and a crew of 34. The yacht’s stunning interior was designed by Chahan Interior Design, who has also worked on other projects for the owner, including a property in London. Chahan was also responsible for the interior of another London property. SOPHIA’s exterior design was crafted by Redman Whitely Dixon and features a glass-bottom swimming pool with a bar underneath, as well as storage for a Bell 429 helicopter.
SOPHIA includes a 9-meter by 4-meter swimming pool and is powered by two MTU 16v 4000 engines, allowing her to reach a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. The yacht’s naval architecture was created by De Voogt Naval Architects.
In July 2017, F1 driver Lance Stroll, son of the original owner, was photographed enjoying a vacation on board SOPHIA with English TV and fashion personality Kimberly Garner.
Initially owned by Lawrence Stroll, the yacht was later sold to Iranian-Canadian businessman Michael Latifi, owner of Sofina Foods Inc. He named the yacht after his daughter Sophia.
The SOPHIA yacht is valued at $200 million, with annual operating costs estimated at around $20 million. Yacht prices can vary significantly based on factors like size, age, luxury level, materials, and technology used in construction.
Feadship, founded in 1949, is a prestigious Dutch yacht-building company based in Aalsmeer and Kaag, Netherlands. Specializing in custom-made luxury motor yachts from 40 to over 100 meters in length, Feadship yachts are highly sought after by affluent individuals and celebrities for their exceptional craftsmanship, innovative design, and cutting-edge technology. Feadship is a collaboration between the yacht builders De Vries and Van Lent, with notable projects including Anna, SYMPHONY, and Faith.
The previous motor yacht of the current owner was originally built as Cakewalk for Charles Gallagher, who later sold it to Frank Fertitta, renaming it Fortunato. Fertitta then sold it to fashion mogul Lawrence Stroll, who in turn sold it to Tommy Hilfiger. The yacht, now named Flag, features Hilfiger’s logo and is frequently showcased on his social media.
Flag was launched in 2000 by Royal Van Lent and is constructed from steel with an aluminum superstructure. SOPHIA can host 14 guests in 7 cabins and has a crew of 17, reaching a maximum speed of 16 knots.
In 2012, the previous yacht SOPHIA, after being acquired by Mr. Stroll, was refitted with a new interior designed by Chahan of Paris, winning the Best Refit Award at the 2013 World Superyacht Awards.

The company’s services include yacht design, naval architecture, interior design, project management and engineering. RWD has a reputation for creating innovative and custom-made yachts, and has worked with some of the world’s leading yacht builders and shipyards. RWD has more than 50 employees. Notable projects include the Lurssen Al Said, the Feadship Faith, and the Amels Ilona.
Her current owner is Michael Latifi, who purchased the yacht from Lawrence Stroll. Until the delivery of Stroll’s new yacht, the Stroll family occasionally uses SOPHIA.
Michael Latifi is an Iranian-Canadian businessman and owner of Sofina Foods Inc., a Canadian food producer serving retail and food service sectors. He is also the father of F1 driver Nicholas Latifi, who races for Williams Grand Prix Engineering.
The yacht SOPHIA is valued at $200 million, with estimated annual running costs between $15-20 million.
