The motor yacht ICE was built by the famous Lurssen yard in 2005. The luxury yacht was originally named Air and was ordered by the Italian candy producer Augusto Perfetti.
Perfetti is known for the famous Mentos brand. During the construction of the yacht, Perfetti received an offer from Kerimov he could not refuse.
Augusto Perfetti ordered a new yacht, again named Air, at the Dutch yacht builder Feadship (De Vries).
Azipod propulsion system
Luxury yacht Ice has a diesel-electric Azipod propulsion system. In the Azipod, the propulsion power is delivered by an electric motor directly connected to the propeller.
The diesel engines, connected to a generator, produce electricity for the Azipod motor. This system achieves a 10% better fuel economy than conventional systems.
The yacht can reach a top speed of 19 knots. Her cruising speed is 16 knots. She has a range of more than 6,000nm.
Ice has a modern Terence Disdale interior. She can accommodate 14 guests and has a crew of 27. The yacht has a large pool, a cinema, and a sauna.
Ice was acclaimed Superyacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards in 2006.
The yacht’s owner was Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov.
Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue
In December 2016 it was reported by a French newspaper that Kerimov has sold his superyacht Ice in 2015 to Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea.
They also reported that the yacht was confiscated in Gibraltar following a request by a Swiss public prosecutor, related to a fraud investigation.
But this info seems incorrect. Obiang Mangue bought the yacht Ocean Victory, which he named Ebony Shine.
