In 2018 he stepped down as CEO of Sears Holdings following the company’s bankruptcy. He remained Chairman of the Board. He offered to buy the company out of bankruptcy, including 500 Sears stores. In 2005 Warren Buffett predicted that the Sears CEO would have an impossible task bringing back the retailer to profit.
Besides his stock, Lampert holds about US$ 381 million in unsecured notes issued to Sears. He is also investor in real estate.
Early 2019 a U.S. bankruptcy court approved Lampert's $5.2 billion bid for Sears. He will keep about 400 Sears stores open and retain about 45,000 jobs.
He lives in a large house in Greenwich, Connecticut. The house is situated close to New York City. And he also owns a US$ 40 million mansion on the Indian Creek Golf Club Island in Miami, Florida.
The house is considered to be the 34th most expensive home in Florida.
The yacht is a 88 meter (288ft) motor yacht built by Feadship in The Netherlands. At the time of her launch she was the largest Feadship built.
