Frey was the owner of Jean Frey Verlag, the largest Swiss media company (in the 1980’s).
The company was founded by his uncle Jean Frey (who died in the 1950s). Around 1987 Max Frey sold his company for around EUR 200 million. He then built El Bravo of Cayman. Max Frey died in 1994.

The luxury yacht was built in 1991 by Nuoni Cantieri Liguri and designed by Studio de Jorio. While Ruggiero Naval Architects was the naval architect.
She was one of the first yachts to have a large pool on board.
Her first name was El Bravo of Cayman, later she was renamed just El Bravo.
As El Bravo, she was purchased by the Greek shipping tycoon John Latsis, who also owned the 122-meter yacht, Alexander.
