The Maltese Falcon yacht was built at Perini Navi in 2006. She is designed by Ken Freivokh. Together with Dutch naval architecture firm Dykstra he employed the first Dyna Rig on a large yacht.
The Maltese Falcon yacht can accommodate 12 guests in 6 cabins. There are five lower-deck staterooms and one upper-deck VIP cabin. She has a crew of 18. The transparent floors let natural light flood into her interior.
She has a displacement of 1,240 tons. Propulsion comes from two DEUTZ engines.
DynaRig consists of freestanding rotating masts with rigid yards and acts as a square rig. Each of the yacht’s masts supports six yards. The sails are trimmed by rotating the masts. As there is no rigging the masts and yards can be rotated without restriction for all points of sail.
Maltese Falcon is one of the most photographed sailing yachts in the world. She has won many awards and is of the most iconic yachts. The yacht was built for Tom Perkins.
Tom Perkins was one of the founders of venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The company was one of Silicon Valley’s top venture capital providers.
His net worth was around US$ 8 billion. He died in 2016 at the age of 84.
The yacht’s owner is Elena Ambrosiadou.
