Yacht Alamshar - Aga Khan

Luxury yacht Alamshar was delivered to her owner His Highness the Aga Khan in 2014, after a 13 year long engineering and construction time. Who is the Aga Khan?

Aga Khan

Aga KhanThe Aga Khan, is the 49th hereditary Imam (Spiritual Leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. As a descendant of the Fatimids, the Egypt-based dynasty that founded Cairo and ruled much of North Africa and the Middle East from the tenth through the twelfth centuries, the Aga Khan retains the hereditary title of “Prince”.

The title of “Aga Khan” dates to 1818, when Hassan Ali Shah, the 46th Ismaili Imam, was granted the honorary hereditary title of “Aga Khan” by the Shah of Persia. The title “His Highness” was granted by Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain in 1957.

Aga Khan Religion

It is believed that the Aga Khan is a direct lineal descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, through Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law Ali (considered the first Imam in Shia Islam), and Ali's wife Fatima az-Zahra, Muhammad's daughter from his first marriage.

In 1986 the Aga Khan ordained the current version of the Ismailia Constitution – an ecclesiastical decree affirming to Nizari Ismailis his "sole right to interpret the Qur'an and provide authoritative guidance on [all] matters of faith" and formalizing his sole discretion, power and authority.

Yacht Alamshar

The yacht Alamshar was built with 6 (!) gas turbines, to reach a top speed of 65 knots. However at test runs it reached only 30 knots.

The yacht was named after the successful Irish Thoroughbred racehorse, which was bred at the Aga Khan’s Aiglemont Estate. The estate is situated near the city of Gouvieux north of Paris, France

In the winter of 2018 Alamshar was sent to Lurssen in Germany, for a refit.

Aga Khan Foundation

The Aga Khan is founder of the Aga Khan Development Network, which spends USD 600 million a year on good causes.

Founded and guided by His Highness the Aga Khan, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) brings together a number of development agencies, institutions, and programmes that work primarily in the poorest parts of Asia and Africa.

A central feature of the AKDN's approach to development is to design and implement strategies in which its different agencies participate in particular settings to help those in need achieve a level of self-reliance and improve the quality of life.

Private Jet and Helicopter

The Aga Khan owns a Bombardier Global 6000 private jet, with registration LX-PAK. The  jet has a list price of US$ 60 million. He also owns an Augusta Westland AW139 helicopter, with registration F-HLAK.

Bell Island

The Aga Khan owns a private island in the Bahamas, known as Bell Island. He is rumored to have paid US$ 100  million for the island in 2012. The Aga Khan also donated US$ 1 million to the Bahamas National Trust.

Aga Khan Net Worth

The Aga Khan has an estimated net worth of US$ 800 million. The Aga Khan reportedly lives with his family in Lisbon, Portugal
