Duchossois served in five European campaigns during World War II. He was awarded various citations before being released from active service as a major in 1946.
From 1952-1980 Duchossois was CEO of Thrall Car Manufacturing Company. Which was owned by his wife’s father and was one of the nation’s leading rail car manufacturers.
In 1980, he purchased Chamberlain Manufacturing Corp. And became its Chairman.
Horse Racing
Duchossois was active in horse racing. He owns the Arlington Park Race Track. And served as a director of the Thoroughbred Racing Association. He owns the Hill n Dale Farm in Barrington Hills, Ill. Where he has bred and owned horses for nearly three decades.
Included among the top horses raced by Duchossois are Explosive Darling, Secretaridge, Royal Copenhagen. And Eclair de Lune, who gave him his most cherished victory in the 2010 Beverly D Stakes race at Arlington.
Beverly D. Stakes
Duchossois founded the Beverly D. Stakes in memory of his late wife Beverly. Who died of cancer in 1980.
