Atlantis II was built for the late Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos.
Niarchos Tried to Outclass Aristotle Onassis
Atlantis II was part of 3 identical sister ships. Which Niarchos built to outclass his rival shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. Onassis was the owner of the superyacht Christina O.
The first yacht was Atlantis I, now called Navtilvs (before that: Isham al Baher). The second is Atlantis II. And the third is a never-finished hull.
Luxury yacht Atlantis II was built in 1981 at Niarchos’ own yard Hellenic Shipyard. Her exterior design is done by Caesar Pinnau.
She is powered by 2 Pielstick diesel engines. Which bring her a top speed of 14 knots. Her cruise speed is 12 knots. She has a steel hull and a part steel part aluminum superstructure.
She can accommodate 26 guests and has a crew of 17. Which is a low crew/guest ratio, compared to modern yachts. Her overall length is 115 meters or 380 ft.
Atlantis in Monaco
For many years the yacht rarely left her berth in Monaco. But since the summer of 2016, she is a frequent visitor of the Bay of St. Tropez
The yacht’s owner is Philip Niarchos. He is the eldest son of Stavros.
