Facebook paid $4 billion in cash, $12 billion in Facebook shares, and $3 billion in restricted stock units. These restricted stock units were granted to WhatsApp's founders Koum and Acton. Koum remained WhatsApp's CEO and became a member of Facebook's board of directors. He left in 2018.
At the sale of WhatsApp he received around US$ 2 billion in cash and 76 million Facebook shares. Those shares alone are worth US$ 14 billion (September 2019). But he gave some away. Forbes estimates Koum net worth at US$ 10 billion.
He has donated more than US$ 500 million to charity.
He owns several houses in the USA. But his main residence is said to be Atherthon in California. He bought several adjoining plots to create a very large residence. On one of the plots he built a museum like building to house his collection of rare Porsche cars. (See the photos down at this page).
He also bought a US$ 100 million mansion in Paradise Cove in Malibu.
We think he does not own a private jet. It seems he charters aircraft, with services as NetJets. Do you know more about a private jet owned by Koum? Please do send us a message.
Koum owns a large collection of Porsche cars. The collection has more than 100 cars. He owes a lot to Porsche, with his desire to own one of the German sports cars, lighting a fire under his ambition in the early years of his career. “For me, a Porsche always represented the epitome of success,” he said. “And the desire to have a car like that, was a key incentive to learn more and to work even harder.”
Early 2019 when he ran out of garage space, he auctioned 10 of his cars. A rare 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach was sold for US$ 1.5 million. A yellow 1993 Porsche 964 Carrera RS 3.8 was sold for US$ 1.1 million.
Mogambo was built at Nobiskrug to a design of Reymond Langton. She was one of 5 yachts ordered by Kristal Waters, a yacht management company owned by the Reuben brothers.
The Reuben brothers have constructed Triple Seven, Siren, Sapphire, Mogambo and Graffiti. The brothers sold 4 yachts and kept Siren as their private yacht.
MY Mogambo can accommodate 12 guests in 6 staterooms. She has a crew of 19. She is powered by 2 MTU engines. Which bring her a max speed of 17 knots. Her cruise speed is 14 knots. The yacht has a range of more than 4,000nm.
We believe she was bought by Koum in 2018. In 2019 he also bought the yacht Power Play, which will act as a support vessel for Mogambo
