The yacht Flying Fox is in the news as she has been detained by the government of the Domenic Republic, reportedly on behalf of the US government.
What seems to be a bit unusual is the fact that her owner Dmitry Kamenshchik is not on any sanctions lists.
Some ‘yacht-related media’ say he is, but we did research and could not find his name on any list.
Also… the yacht was not in US waters. So we are really curious about what happens next in this case.
The yacht’s name is a reference to his business, as he is the owner of the Domodedovo Airport. Domodedovo is one of the largest airports in Eastern Europe.
Also interesting is the fact that – as far as we can find – her owner is not ‘a friend of the Government’. On the contrary…, according to a 2016 BBC article, her owner was detained by the Russian government and was placed under house arrest for two months.
This was related to a 2011 terrorist attack on the airport, for which the government blames Kamenshchik. He states that he did follow all relevant government rules back in 2011.
And this issue seems to be related to the fact that the Russian government wants to acquire a stake in Domodedovo, but Mr Kamenshchik is refusing the sale.
So we are really wondering why the yacht was seized. Do you know more? Pls send us a message.
Sanctions on the 136-meter Lürssen superyacht Flying Fox have been lifted, allowing it to be chartered globally. Previously under Imperial Yachts’ management, the yacht was sanctioned in 2022 due to its association with the company amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In early 2024, Flying Fox became available for charter through Bluewater Yachting for UK and EU citizens, though restrictions remained for US citizens. Bluewater Yachting clarified that the yacht’s owner was never sanctioned.
Beyonce posted photos online, of herself and Jay Z having a holiday on board the superyacht Flying Fox.
The yacht is at anchor near the famous Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat.
Flying Fox is available for charter at Imperial Yachts for a fee of around $ 4 million per week
The yacht was built by Lurssen in 2019 and is one of the largest superyachts in the world.
Her owner is rumored to be Jeff Bezos, although we believe this info is incorrect.
