Al Salamah was ordered in 1998, by the German shipbuilding company HDW, in Kiel, Germany, but was finished at the Lürssen shipyard in Bremen.
The project carried the name Mipos ” Mission possible”. The luxury yacht Al Salamah was built for Prince Sultan Al Saud.
Specifications
Al Salamah can accommodate 40 guests in 22 cabins and has a crew of 94, and can accommodate an additional staff of 56, totaling the total crew at 150. S
he has a total of 12,000 sqm (130,000 sq ft) of floor space. She is powered by MTU engines. Her top speed is 21 knots. Her cruise speed is 17 knots. Her range is more than 5.000nm.
Interior
Some of her special features include a car garage, three hospitals (one of the owner, one for guests, and one for the crew), and a hairdressing salon. There is a secretary office, five galleys (the main galley, a bakery, a crew galley, an owner’s diet galley, and an Arab galley).
The yacht even has a dedicated dressing room for artists.
Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz al Saud
The yacht was built for Prince Sultan bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud. He was the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia at the time of his death in 2011. He served as the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and Aviation.
He was one of the Sudairi Seven. Sultan was first in the Saudi line of succession until his death.
For Sale asking US$ 280 Million
In 2013 superyacht Al Salamah was put for sale with an asking price of USD 280 million. Later she was de-listed and we were informed that she was transferred as a gift to the Crown Prince of Bahrain.
Although we were contacted by the Court of the Crown Prince of Bahrain, stating that HRH the Crown Prince is not, and never has been, the owner of the yacht Al Salamah.
They did not give an explanation of why Al Salamah has been flying the Bahraini Flag for many months.
Owner
The yacht’s owner is Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Update: One of our sources told us, that the yacht was actually gifted back to the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia, and that she is now considered to be the official yacht of the King of Saudi Arabia. The was apparently refitted in 2016.
