In February 2020, it was reported that the luxury yacht Samadhi, owned by Daniel Loeb, had inadvertently caused damage to a coral reef in Belize while on a charter trip. The yacht was anchored on a patch of sand off the coast of Belize, and the anchor was dragged onto the coral, causing damage to the reef.
A spokesperson for Loeb (her owner at that moment) confirmed that he was not on board at the time and expressed their concern over the incident. In a statement, Loeb stated that as a lifelong surfer and ocean enthusiast, he was horrified to hear about the incident and promptly contacted the Belize Audubon Society, a conservation group, to work together to restore the reef.
In 2021, the Samadhi yacht underwent a small refit and maintenance work at Feadship’s facilities in Amsterdam. The refit is part of routine maintenance to ensure the yacht remains in top condition for future trips.
The yacht’s owner is Dutch billionaire Laurens Last. He sold his packaging company Scholle IPN for $1.4 billion. In 2025 it was reported that Laurens Last purchased Dutch Yacht Builder HEESEN YACHTS.
