The name Yersin refers to the doctor and adventurer Dr Alexandre Yersin. Yersin was the discoverer of the bacillus responsible for the deadly disease known as the pest or the plague.
Piriou Yard
The Piriou yard is a French company founded in 1965 and specializes in ship building and ship repairs, focusing on fishery and the off shore industry.
As far as SuperYachtFan is informed, Yersin is the only yacht built by Piriou. Although they were also involved in the restoration of Jacques-Yves Cousteau’s research vessel Calypso.
Calypso was actually not owned by Cousteau. But was owned by Irish millionaire Loel Guinness. He leased her to Cousteau for one franc per year. The yacht visited Amsterdam in October 2015.
