Leonardo Del Vecchio was the founder and executive chairman of Luxottica. And he was the richest man in Italy. He was born in May 1935 in Milan in a poor family. He died June 27, 2022 aged 87.  He was married to Nicoletta Zampillo. He has 6 children (Claudio, Leonardo Maria, Clemente, Luca, Marisa, and Paola).

He started as a toolmaker and focused on eyeglass parts. In the 1960’s he started selling complete eyeglass frames. He named his company Luxottica. Within a few years, he started manufacturing with brand licensing deals. He was the owner of the yacht Moneikos.
