Polys Haji-Ioannou has managed oil tankers out of Norway since 1993. The Haji-Ioannou Family has been ship owners since the 1950s and it acquired its first oil tanker in 1969. The Haji-Iouannou family has been among the world’s largest tanker owners.
Poly’s father Loucas Haji-Ioannou moved to London in 1959 and entered the shipping industry by buying a 10,500-ton dry cargo ship which he named Nedi, after his wife. In a few years’ time, he built a fleet of more than 20 cargo vessels. Later he moved to Athens and he realized that the future of shipping was in the international oil trade. He bought his first oil tanker in 1969 and became a big force in the market, within 10 years.
EasyJet
Polys is also a shareholder, in EasyJet, which was founded by his brother Stelios. He owns roughly 9% of the EasyJet shares through his company Polys Holdings Ltd. These shares have a value of around $600 million.
