Deripaska is a Russian billionaire and founder of the Basic Element Group. He was born in January 1968. He was married to Polina, they have 2 children. He controls Rusal, a Russian aluminum producer. His ex-wife Polina is the step-granddaughter of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

Basic Element is the holding company for Deripaska. Basic Element has investments in energy, mining, metals, and construction.
It is one of the largest industrial groups in Russia. Well known investments are aluminum giant Rusal, GAZ Group, and En+ Group.
United Company RUSAL is the world’s second-largest aluminum producer. Rusal produces around 10% of the world’s aluminum.
Deripaska started as a commodities agent and broker at the Russian Commodities and Raw Materials Exchange. As a broker, he dealt in a wide range of commodities, including aluminum.
His work also included trading with major Russian aluminum smelters. In the early ‘90s, he started investing in the shares of Sayanogorsk Aluminum Smelter (SAZ). It was one of the newest and most modern aluminum plants built in Soviet times.
This company was the basis of the current Rusal. It later merged with Roman Abramovich’s Milhouse Capital. Deripaska controls Rusal through his En+ Group. He owns 48% of Rusal’s shares.
His net worth is US$ 3.3 billion. He was once one of the richest Russians. But lost most after the 2008 financial crisis.
He is an active philanthropist through his Volnoe Delo foundation. His donations are more than US$ 250 million. The foundations focus on education and science, preserving cultural heritage, and improving public health.
He is a friend of Nath Rothschild, owner of the yacht Planet Nine.
