The Athena is a three-masted schooner built by Royal Huisman in 2004. She is designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder Design. Athena is one of the largest sailing yachts in the world. It was the largest yacht ever built by Huisman, a position now taken by Sea Eagle II.
The yacht is powered by Caterpillar engines. Her max speed is 19 knots. She has a range of more than 3000 nm. The yacht has an aluminum hull and an aluminum superstructure.
The yacht can accommodate 10 guests and a crew of 20. Athena was the winner of the Show Boats International Award. For Best Sailing Yacht over 40 Meters for 2004.
The yacht’s owner is Jim Clark.
J Class Hanuman and the Racing Yacht Comanche
Clark also owns the Huisman built Super J Class Hanuman. Which is actually also for sale. And he owns the racing yacht Comanche. Comanche is a 30-meter sloop, built by Hodgdon Yachts in 2014.
James Clark uses Comanche actively. He raced her in the Rolex Sidney Hobart Yacht Race. And in the 2015 Les Voiles de Saint-Barth Race.
Listed for Sale, asking US$ 59 million
In 2012 the Athena yacht was put for sale. With an asking price of US$ 95 million. But her price has been reduced to US$ 59 million.
