Kingdom 5KR is an 85.65-meter motor yacht. The luxurious yacht was built in 1980 by the yacht builder Benetti. For an estimated USD 100 million. Purchased new, the equivalent would be more than USD 200 million. She was designed by Jon Bannenberg.
The yacht is powered by 2 Nohab diesel engines. Which bring her a top speed of 20 knots. Her cruising speed is 17 knots. She has a range of 8,500nm. The yacht has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure.
Her interior was designed by Luigi Sturchio. She can accommodate 22 guests and a crew of 30.
Built as Nabila for Adnan Kashoggi
The yacht was built as Nabila for Saudi billionaire Adnan Khashoggi, who named her after his daughter. At the time of its construction, Nabila was one of the largest yachts in the world.
Featured in a James Bond movie
During its days as Nabila, the yacht was featured in the James Bond movie Never Say Never Again. In the Bond movie, she was named Flying Saucer. Translated from the Italian Disco Volante in the original novel Thunderball. The yacht acted as the villain’s mobile headquarters.
This isn’t the only yacht of course to play a starring role in the spy franchise. With a number of other Bond Boats gracing our screens across the years. The yacht was the inspiration for a track – Khashoggi’s Ship- on a 1989 album by rock band Queen.
Sultan of Brunei and Donald Trump were owners
After Khashoggi ran into financial problems. He sold the yacht in 1988 to the Sultan of Brunei. Who in turn sold it to Donald Trump for USD 29 million.
Trump renamed the yacht the Trump Princess. When Trump ran into financial problems, he sold it to Prince Al-Waleed in 1991.
The yacht’s current name stems from the Prince’s investment company, Kingdom Holding Company. And his lucky number (5), and his children’s initials (‘K’ and ‘R’).
The New Kingdom 5KR
The yacht is rumored to be replaced by a larger yacht. Known as the New Kingdom 5KR. The last few years she seems to stay unmoved at the IYCA in Antibes.
In June 2016 she left for maintenance to a dry dock in Genua, Italy.
The yacht’s owner is Prince Al Waleed bin Talal al Saud.
