After graduating from high school, he launched the youth magazine Pop in 1965 with start-up capital borrowed from school friends. Pop became Germany’s 2nd largest youth magazine.
Marquard’s breakthrough in the German-speaking magazine market came in 1981 with Cosmopolitan magazine.
The group now sells around 40 publications in German-speaking countries, Poland and Hungary. The company also owns around 20 websites and has 450 employees.
In 2005 he was active as a co-producer of the reality series Traumjob, a licensed version of Donald Trump‘s The Apprentice. This show achieved maximum ratings on the first channel of Swiss television.
Honorary Consul General of Hungary
1995 Marquard was named Honorary Consul General of Hungary. In 2006, he was awarded the Medal of Honor Hero of Freedom.
