Kerry Stokes started in real estate development in his twenties. He was successful as a shopping mall developer. He was born in 1940. He is married to Christine Stokes. He has 4 children.
Later he invested in a Caterpillar franchise, now called WesTrac. WesTrac sells Caterpillar mining equipment to companies such as Rio Tinto.

Stokes lives with his wife Christine Stokes in a large house in Dalkeith, near Perth, Western Australia. The house is situated on Swan River, which opens up to the Indian Ocean. In 2009 the value of the house was estimated at US$ 20 million. He also owns a home in Broome, in Western Australia.
He is the owner of the yacht Antipodean.
He was the owner of a Bombardier Global Express with registration N888GX. The business jet was built in 2007.
