Qui est Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan?

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, or MBZ for short, is a prominent political figure in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was born on March 11, 1961, and is the third son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who served as the first president of the UAE and the ruler of Abu Dhabi.

After the death of his father in November 2004, MBZ’s half-brother, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, succeeded him as the president of the UAE and the ruler of Abu Dhabi. However, when Sheikh Khalifa suffered a stroke in January 2014, MBZ took on an increasingly important role in UAE policymaking and became the de facto ruler of Abu Dhabi.

As the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, MBZ was entrusted with most of the day-to-day decision-making of the emirate. He has been characterized by academics as a strongman leader of an authoritarian regime. Despite this, he has been recognized as one of the most powerful men on Earth by The New York Times in 2019, and one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2019 by Time.

Following the death of Sheikh Khalifa on May 13, 2022, MBZ was elected as the ruler of Abu Dhabi the next day. He then became the third president of the United Arab Emirates.

MBZ is regarded by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre as the eighth most influential Muslim in the world in 2023. His political career has been marked by his commitment to advancing the UAE’s economic development and its position as a major player on the global stage.

In addition to his leadership roles, Sheikh Mohammed is the owner of the luxury superyacht Rabdan. The yacht was built in 2007 by Silver Yachts and is designed by Espen Oeino. It has a top speed of 27 knots and a range of 4,500 nautical miles.
