Who is Eric Schmidt?
Eric Schmidt is the former Chairman of Google and parent company Alphabet INC. He was born on April 27, 1955. He is married to Wendy Schmidt.
Schmidt started working at Sun Microsystems in 1983. He was its first software manager. In a 14 year career, the software engineer became president of Sun Technology Enterprises.
He graduated from Yorktown High School and attended Princeton University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He was CEO of Novell and Chief Technology Officer at Sun Microsystems.
In April 1997 he became CEO and chairman of the board of Novell. Schmidt left Novell after Novell acquired Cambridge Technology Partners. In 2011 Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin hired Schmidt to manage Google.
He is now a technical advisor to Alphabet. Alphabet is Google’s parent company.
His initial salary was $250,000. It included an annual performance bonus. He was granted several million shares and options. Which made him one of the Google Billionaires.
Early 2020 Schmidt owned approx 4 million shares in Google / Alphabet INC. Google gave him $100 million in 2011 as a parting gift.
