Nathan Myhrvold is a former Chief Technology Officer at Microsoft and co-founder of Intellectual Ventures. He was born on August 3, 1959. He is married to Rosemarie Havranek.
Microsoft
In the early 1980s, after graduating he founded Dynamical Systems Research (DSR), a company aimed to sell a software system for personal computers. The company was not very successful, but in 1986 Microsoft bought it for $1.5 million. Myhrvold made a career at Microsoft and became Chief Technology Officer. As with other senior Microsoft management, he was compensated with shares and share options that made him very rich.
He is the co-founder of Microsoft Research, which aims to advance state-of-the-art computing and solve world problems through technological innovation.
Intellectual Ventures
In 2000 he founded Intellectual Ventures, an investor in patents and inventions. The company has bought more than 70,000 intellectual property assets and generates around $3 billion in revenues.
