In 1982 he co-founded Silicon Graphics, a manufacturer of high-performance computing solutions, including computer hardware and software. Clark left Silicon Graphics in 1994.
In 1993 Clark had met Marc Andreessen developer of Mosaic, the first widely distributed software for browsing the World Wide Web.
The next year Clark and Andreessen founded Netscape. Netscape Navigator once was the most widely used web browser. In the 1995 Netscape IPO Clark earned $2 billion.
In 1999, Jim Clark launched myCFO, a company formed to help wealthy Silicon Valley individuals manage their fortunes.
In late 2002, while Clark served on the board of directors, most of myCFO’s operations were sold to Harris Bank and now operate as Harris myCFO.

Clark is an active philanthropist with a US$ 150 million donation to the James Henry Clark Center for Biomedical Engineering and a US$ 30-million donation to Tulane University in New Orleans.
