Ferrari was founded by Piero’s father Enzo. In 1929 he founded the race team Scuderia Ferrari, which acted as a racing division for Alfa Romeo. He did not make cars yet.
Ferrari left Alfa Romeo in 1939 and founded Auto-Avio Costruzioni, a company supplying parts to other racing teams.
It wasn’t until 1947 that he founded Ferrari SPA and started making race cars. In 1950 Ferrari enrolled in the newly-born Formula 1 World Championship and is the only team to remain continuously present since its introduction.

Since 2016 Piero is a shareholder at the Ferretti Group. Ferretti is a yacht building company, with brands as Ferretti Yachts, Custom Line, Pershing, Itama, Riva, Mochi Craft, and CRN.
The group realizes sales of more than EUR 600 million, with a net profit of EUR 30 million. It 2019 it was announced that Ferretti would be stock listed in Milan. Piero owns 11% of Ferretti through his F Investments SA. Also his daughter Antonella is married to Ferretti CEO Alberto Galassi.

In 1998 Piero became a shareholder at Piaggio Aero, one of the world’s oldest aircraft manufacturers. The company is known for the Piaggio P.180 Avanti business aircraft. In fact, Piero has owned several of these aircraft, all with the Ferrari logo. In 2015 he sold his shares to Mubadala Development Company. Unfortunately in 2018, the company went bankrupt.
