Built in 1979 by the renowned Ray Kemp, the PRINCESS ILUKA is a stunning yacht featuring the exquisite design work of Bernie Cohen Design. This remarkable vessel was originally constructed in Tasmania using the region’s famed Tasmanian Oak. In 2009, she underwent a significant refit to elevate her status and style.
As the world’s largest yacht constructed from Huon Pine, a protected tree species native to Tasmania, PRINCESS ILUKA boasts a unique and timeless appeal. Initially launched for an Australian businessman who christened her “Iluka,” this impressive yacht spent much of her time navigating the pristine Australian waters.
During the late 80s and early 90s, PRINCESS ILUKA underwent a modernization process before falling into disrepair. Eventually, she was auctioned off and acquired by the McVicker family. Despite plans for a 10-year modern refit, the project was halted due to the 2007/2008 financial crisis.
Fortunately, after the crisis, PRINCESS ILUKA’s refit was completed, and she transformed into a sought-after Australian charter yacht. In 2015, she journeyed from Australia to the Mediterranean, quickly becoming one of the most in-demand charter yachts in her size and price range.
Sadly, an engine room fire two years ago left PRINCESS ILUKA in disrepair once again. However, she is currently preparing for transport back to Australia for another extensive refit, ensuring her revival and return to the seas!
