Nahlin was built in 1930 for Annie Henrietta Yule. She was heiress to the (Indian) Yule conglomerate. At that time she was known as the richest woman in the UK.
1934 Nahlin was classified as one of the biggest private yachts ever built in the U.K. Other owners of the Nahlin yacht include King Carol II of Romania and yacht broker Nicholas Edmiston. He sent her for a US$ 20 million restoration under the supervision of G.L. Watson.
Later she was bought by Sir Anthony Bamford. He is now the owner of the yacht Virginian. Bamford sold Nahlin to Dyson in 2006.
Sir James and his wife Lady Dyson spent five years working with Blohm and Voss in Germany. To rescue, rebuild, and restore the heritage vessel. Nahlin can now accommodate 12 guests
The vessel is powered by 4 Curtis Brown steam engines. They bring a total of 8,684hp. She has a top speed of 17 knots. Her cruise speed is 14 knots. She is formally registered to a UK company named ATO Marine LLP.
