Lightning was built as Princess Mariana for Mexican billionaire Carlos Peralta.
The yacht was built by Royal Denship and delivered in 2002. At delivery, she was one of the largest yachts in the world.
She has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. The yacht is powered by 2 Deutz engines. Which bring her a top speed of 18 knots. Her cruise speed is 16 knots. She has a large range of 7,000nm.
She is designed by Espen Oeino, while Zuretti is responsible for her interior. The tender garage is a float-in dry dock, which can be flooded to create a 12-meter swimming pool.
Other features include a helicopter pad, which can turn into a golf driving range, a large cinema, and a part deck with a dance floor, barbeque, spa pool, and bars.
The yacht had a large 35 meter (115ft) chase boat named Moon Goddess, also built in Denmark.
Powered by 7500hp MTU’s, Moon Goddess can reach a top speed of 45 knots. In 2008 Princess Mariana was put for sale with an asking price of EUR 125 million (US$ 140 million).
She was purchased by California based construction tycoon Ronald Tutor. He named her Pegasus V. He previously owned several other yachts all named Pegasus.
In 2015 the yacht was sold again. Her new owner is Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS).
He named her Pegasus VIII, which was an intermediate name. The III in the yacht’s logo was clearly in a different color than the V.
Pegasus VIII was send to the Netherlands, to have an intensive refit.
In 2020 the yacht leaved the Netherlands again, with a different hull paint and now named Lightning.
In 2015 he also bought Yuri Shefler’s yacht Serene. In October 2016 both Pegasus and Serene were in Vlissingen, the Netherlands for a refit.
