The Bliss was built by Heesen Yachts in 2007. She is designed by Omega Architects. She was built for Jon Asgeir Johannesson and his wife Ingibjörg Stefanía Pálmadóttir, who named her 101.
The yacht can accommodate 10 guests and a crew of 9.
Jon Asgeir Johannesson
The was built as 101 for Jon Asgeir Johannesson. He was once a very prominent and wealthy businessman, as CEO and owner of the Baugur Group.
Baugur started as a low-price supermarket, named BÓNUS, which turned into Iceland’s second largest retailer.
Following the success of Bonus, Johannesson acquired other retailers and fashion companies. He also acquired stakes in banks, forming the Glitnir bank.
Islandic Financial Crisis
Following the Icelandic financial crisis the Baugur group collapsed and filed for bankruptcy in 2009.
Jón Ásgeir was charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor in connection with his role in the financial crisis, but as of June 2017 he has been cleared two times in the same case.
On 18th of May 2017 The European Court of Human Rights found the Icelandic government guilty of violating Jon Asgeir´s human rights by punishing him twice for the same act. That violated 7th Protocol of The European Convention on Human Rights
The yacht 101 was named after some companies owned by Ingibjörg Stefanía Pálmadóttir. She owns a boutique hotel named 101, she owned an investment firm named 101 Capital, and she still owns 365, a media and TV company in Iceland.
