The United States Department of Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control, has placed the sitting vice president of Venezuela, Tareck El Aissami, as well as Samark Lopez on its sanctions list.
The listing is made pursuant to the authority that targets foreign narcotics traffickers. The allegations relate to Mr. El Aissami’s purported role in drug trafficking.
According to Mr Samark’s personal website, the listing provides no factual evidence or legal justification as to why Samark Lopez should be placed on the list, other than that Samark Lopez and Tareck El Aissami are personal acquaintances.
