Her original owner was Charles Berwind, who headed Berwin Corporation (active in coal mining). When he died in 2010, his yacht was sold by his estate. Golisano spent US$ 50 million on the yacht. Laurel has a composite superstructure and is powered by two Caterpillar engines. Her top speed is 18 knots and her range 6,000 miles at 13 knots.
The yacht Laurel can accommodate 12 guests and a crew of 22. Her interior is designed by Donald Starkey. There is an observation room on the sun deck, a sky lounge, a study and a large gym.
