Walter Scott is an active philanthropist through the Suzanne and Walter Scott Foundation. The foundation is named after his late wife Suzanne Scott, who died in 2013. The foundation focuses on education, youth development and support for the Omaha city community. In 2016 Scott donated US$ 53 million to Colorado State University School of Engineering, to form the Walter Scott Jr. College of Engineering.
The yacht ICE BEAR was built at Feadship in 1988 as Gallant Lady for automotive entrepreneur Jim Moran (who actually ordered 8 Feadships during his life). The yacht was later named Royal Pacific. When Walter Scott purchased the yacht in named her Ice Bear. Ice Bear can accommodate 10 guests and a crew of 12. Her interior is designed by Paola Smith. She is powered by 2 Caterpillar engines, which bring her a top speed of 15 knots.
