Is Rupert Murdoch the Owner of the Yacht Vertigo?

There are rumors on the Internet that Mr. Rupert Murdoch is the owner of the yacht Vertigo. However, Superyachtfan received a message from Y.CO that Mr. Murdoch is actually NOT the owner of Vertigo. Superyachtfan is not sure who owns Vertigo, but until somebody sends us an e-mail with the name of the actual owner, we will hold on to Mr. Murdoch.

Alloy Yachts

Superyacht Vertigo was built by New Zealand’s Alloy Yachts and was delivered to her owner in 2011. The yacht is designed by Phillipe Briand, with interior design by Christian Liaigre. Liaigre also designed the interior of Rosehearty, Murdoch’s other sail yacht.

Child Friendly Yacht

The yacht’s interior is very child friendly, with a TV-room for the owners two younger children. Vertigo has a gym and a beach club, each featuring large hull openings. (We must admit that the ‘child friendliness’ does not really support owner ship by Mr. Murdoch)

Charter Vertigo

Vertigo is available for charter. The pictures on this page are made by Chris Byer. The yacht Vertigo is available for charter, enquire for your ultimate charter experience.

Rupert Murdoch

Rupert Murdoch is the owner of News Corporation, the world's second-largest media conglomerate.

News Limited

Rupert Murdoch inherited Australia's News Limited from his father in 1952. At that time News Limited owned the Adelaide News, which had a circulation of over 90,000 copies, as well as the Sunday Mail, with over 150,000 sales. From there the newspaper and magazine holdings were expanded throughout Australia, first into Melbourne and Perth then in 1960 to Sydney where one of News Limited’s titles, the Daily Mirror, eventually became the biggest selling paper in New South Wales. Murdoch also entered the New Zealand market.

The Australian

In 1964 Murdoch launched The Australian, Australia’s first national daily newspaper. In the following decades Murdoch acquired various newspapers in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.  The group expanded into the UK market in December 1968 with the purchase of the News of the World and later The Sun , The Times and The Sunday Times, under the holding company which is today called NI Group Limited, more commonly referred to as News International. Expansion into the US market and beyond took place from 1973 onwards, and later with diversification into other media as well as newspapers.

News Corporation

In 1979 The News Corporation Limited (“News Corporation") was incorporated in Australia as the holding company for these global Investments. News Corporation was reincorporated in the US in 2004 where it is today listed on the NASDAQ with a secondary listing on the Australian Securities Exchange and a standard listing on the London Stock Exchange. In the United States Murdoch acquired Twentieth Century Fox, HarperCollins and The Wall Street Journal.

21st Century Fox

In 2013 News Corporation was split in two publicly traded companies, the present News Corp. was renamed 21st Century Fox and is oriented towards media, and a new News Corp was formed and is oriented towards publishing.

Murdoch’s Sailing Yachts

Murdoch owns two luxury yachts: the Perini Navi sailing yacht Rosehearty (named after Murdoch’s Long Island, NY estate) and the Philippe Briand designed sailing yacht Vertigo. Forbes estimates the net worth of Rupert Murdoch at US$ 11 billion.
