He is an American billionaire and successful entrepreneur. He is helping his close friend Elon Musk at the Tesla board of directors. He was born in New York in August 1944.  He was married 4 times, latest with Melanie Craft. He has 2 children with his ex-wife Barbara: Megan Ellison and David Ellison.



He is co-founder and chief executive of Oracle Corporation. He is executive chairman of Oracle’s Board and Chief Technology Officer.



He was born in the Bronx and was raised by his aunt and uncle. He was later adopted. He dropped out of school when is adoptive mother died.



As a young man he bounced from job to job.  For a short period he attended the University of Chicago. But he dropped out after the first semester.



He started working as a programmer. And in a few years he founded his own company named Software Development Labs.



The name Oracle finds its origin in a database for the CIA, which Ellison built in that period. When IBM adobted the Oracle database for its own mainfraim the company grew quickly.



The company is now one of the world's largest enterprise software companies. Oracle is based in Silicon Valley.

In 2019 Ellison hold a 22.5% stake in Oracle, which makes him one of the richest persons in the world. He has an estimated net worth of US$ 66 billion (May 2019).



He is also known as a succesful real estate developer. And he has a large art collection.

His base salary is just US$ 1.00 per year. But his total compensation in (stock) options is around US$ 45 million per year. He owns 1.1 billion stocks in Oracle.



The Oracle CEO receives an annual dividend of more than US$ 500 million per year. These amounts sufficiently support his expensive lifestyle with yachts and private jets.  




Philanthropy

He is an active philanthropist through his own Ellision foundation. In 2018 he donated US$ 200 million to the University of Southern California. It was to establish a research center for the treatment and prevention of Cancer.




Oracle Corporation

During the 1970’s he worked on a database for Ampex Corporation. This inspired him to found the ‘Software Development Laboratories’ in 1977.



SDL was later renamed Oracle after its successful product. This was the Oracle database.

In 2015 Oracle Corporation has more than 135.000 employees. Oracle realizes sales of USD 38 billion with a net profit of USD 10 billion.




G650 Private Jet

Ellison is the owner of a Gulfstream G650 private jet with registration N817GS. Ellison bought the jet in 2015. The G650 has a list price of US$ 75 million. The aircraft can accommodate 14 passengers.




Wing and Prayer

The jet is registered to the company Wing and a Prayer Inc. The company is owned by Ellison. Ownership is confirmed in this court document. Although the case relates to an older jet also owned by Ellison.



Also registered to Wing and Prayer are a Bombardier Global Express. This jet was built in 2000. She has registration N17GX.



And there is a Cessna 525 Citation with registration N417C. The Cessna was built in 2010.



We also found a company named Oracle Navigation LLC. We found the N15GX, another Bombardier Global Express. The jet was built in 2008.  And we found the N171CL, a Bombardier Challenger built in 2013.




Larry Ellison House

He owns many houses around the world. But his most notable are his Japanese themed house in Woodside, San Francisco. The 23 acres estate was built in 1999. It has an estimated value of US$ 200 million. He also owns a golf estate in Rancho Mirage and a house in Atherton.



He also owns the Hawaiian Island of Lanai, for which he paid US$ 300 million. Lanai is the sixth-largest of the Hawaiian Islands. Lanai hosts the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay.


He owns more than 10 properties on Carbon Beach in Malibu. The area is known as billionaire beach. In 2017 he paid US$ 48 million for a house with tennis court and pool. And in 2018 he paid US$ 38 million for Joe Silver’s beach house.

He has owned several superyachts:

* the 75 meter Blohm and Voss yacht Katana (now named Enigma),

* the 138 meter Lurssen yacht Rising Sun (which is now owned by David Geffen)

* the 88 meter Feadship motor yacht Musashi. This is his current yacht.



Musashi Yacht

Musashi was built by Feadship and was delivered in 2011. The yacht is designed by De Voogt Yacht Design. She has a length of 88 meters (287ft). She is a sistership to Fountainhead, which is owned by Eddie Lampert.



Musashi is powered by 4 MTU diesel engines. Which bring her a top speed of 21 knots. She has a cruise speed of 18 knots. Her range is 6,000nm. She has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure.



Her interior is designed by Sinot Yacht Design. The superyacht can accomodate 18 guests and a crew of 24.




Rising Sun Yacht

Rising Sun is a 138 meter (454ft) yacht built in 2004 at Lurssen. She has a displacement of 7,841t, which makes her one of the larger yacht around.



She is powered by 4 MTU diesel engines. Which bring her a top speed of 28 knots. Her cruise speed is 26 knots.  She can accomodate 16 guests and a crew of 45.



Ellison actually sold Rising Sun, as he considered her too large. She is unable to access interesting yachting destinations. He replaced her with the ‘smaller’ 88 meter Mushashi. The yacht is used as support vessel at the america cup.





Katana Yacht

The yacht Katana was built by Blohm Voss as Eco for the Mexican media billionaire Emillio Azcarraga. He was founder of Televisa.



Azcarrage died in 1997. He actually died on board his luxury yacht near Miami. His family sold the yacht after a few years.



The yacht is powered by 2 Deutz diesel engines and one General Electric gas turbine. The combined power is 28,497hp. These bring her a top speed of 35 knots. Her cruise speed is 19 knots. She has a range of 3,500nm.



The luxury yacht can accomodate 14 guests and a crew of 19. The yacht has a steel hull and a composite superstructure. Her interior is designed by Francis design.




Izanami Yacht (now Ronin)

The yacht Izanami was built in 1993 at Lurssen yacht. Her comisisoning owner was based in Japand. He sold her to Ellision in 1999.



The 58 meter (192ft) yacht is powered by 2 MTU 16V595 engines, with a total of 12,000hp. These bring her to a top speed of 30 knots. Her cruise speed is 18 knots. She has an aluminum hull and superstructure.



The yacht can accomodate 10 guests and has a crew of 14. Her gross tonage is 626t.



Ellison in his turn sold Ronin to Venezualan banker Victor Vargas. He is owner of the Banco Occidental de Descuento. In 2013 Ronin underwent a refit at Lurssen Yachts.



She is now listed for sale, asking US$ 16 million.
