Norge means Norway
The ship’s name Norge is Norwegian for ´Norway´.
The yacht is maintained and manned by a crew of 54, supplied by the Royal Norwegian Navy, but she is owned by the King.
A gift to King Haakon
His son King Olaf adopted a 10-year plan to upgrade the hull and technical equipment.
Next to Norge there is the Danish Royal Yacht Dannebrog, while the former Queen Beatrix (now Princess Beatrix) of the Netherlands owns the small sailing yacht ‘De Groene Draeck’ (the Green Dragon). King Juan Carlos of Spain gave up his luxury yacht Fortuna in 2013 as a reaction on the Spanish economic crisis.
